Paper dolls have been entertaining for centuries
By Larry LeMasters The first paper dolls are lost to history, but it is a very old history. A Japanese purification ritual, dating to at least 900 AD, used a paper figure and a folded paper kimono, which were put into a boat and set adrift upon the sea. And other cultures have used leather and paper puppets since before the birth of Christ.
