Betty Boop still wows collectors
By Larry LeMasters Betty Boop, America’s first flapper cartoon woman openly used her sexuality to become an overnight sensation. And her popularity has never diminished. Betty made her first appearance on Aug. 9, 1930, in the cartoon Dizzy Dishes, the sixth installment in Max Fleischer’s Talkartoon series. By 1931 Betty dominated the series that became the best example of cartoon characters transitioning from silent to sound.
